Nes turns into a huge open-air theatre full of street theatre, music and spectacle.

The Rôggefestival, popularly known as the Rôggefeest, transforms the village of Nes into a huge open-air theatre every first Friday of August. Since 1986, street theatre, acrobatics, music and spectacle have filled the historic village centre, with stages and performance spots where artists, stilt walkers and acts surprise young and old.

The festival has a clear family character: during the day there is children's theatre and entertainment for families, while towards the end of the day the atmospheric Rôggeparade moves through the streets with walking performers and music from parade floats. With the charming backdrop of old Ameland houses, the Rôggefestival is one of the best-known and most atmospheric public events on the island.
