Creative workshops on Ameland: intuitive felting with ZiltVilt and painting with Wadden mud with Joke Ket

ZiltVilt: felt art & intuitive felting workshops

Besides being a coach, Mariëlle is also an artist. Her creations made of wool, such as medicine dolls (power dolls) and comfort hearts, have an empowering and supportive effect. She loves passing on her knowledge of felting in intuitive felting workshops, a lovely moment to get out of your head for a while. About Joke Ket

I live and work in Friesland, in Hurdegaryp. After several courses and masterclasses with Doet Boersma (Kunstacademie Friesland), I attended the Summer Academy of the Kunstenaarsbond for 3 years. My first exhibition was in 1995. Since then I have exhibited regularly in various galleries throughout the Netherlands and took part in a group exhibition in Sweden. A special mention goes to the exhibition in The Hague at the Embassy of Vietnam. This followed a trip we had made through Vietnam and the work that came out of it. The then ambassador bought one of my works; it now hangs in his home in Vietnam. After years of painting about our travels to Asia, Africa and South America, I now paint close to home in my Friesland. You can regularly find me on the Wadden Sea dyke and on the islands.

I work from the idea “From the fire of the earth” and start my work in red. My love goes above all to the Wadden Sea with its changing tides, gullies and foraging birds, with the islands on the horizon. The Wadden Sea gives me space, breathing room and the sensation of salt on my lips, feet in the mud and wind through my hair. Finds from the mudflats such as shells, mud and seaweed I incorporate into my paintings and objects. It gives me the ultimate feeling of freedom and of my bond with Friesland. (schildereizen.com)

Part of the proceeds from the sale of my work goes to Stichting Kalpitiya. There we (my husband and I), together with a friend who lives there, run small-scale projects for the health and well-being of children. (kalpitiya.nl)

The exhibitors offer their work for sale. On the Gallery web page you can read which artists are involved. The programme for November is published in September/October.
